Discovery Workshops for Children


Pond Fishing
July 6 or 13 or 20 *
July 14 or 28 **
1:00pm - 3:00pm $30.00
Children will have fun catching their own fish in Newlin's trout ponds.
* July 6 or13 or 20 workshops open to children ages 5 - 7
** July 14 or 28 workshops open to children ages 8 - 12

Fly Fishing
July 7 1:00pm - 3:00pm $30.00
Participants will learn the skill of bait and fly casting. Children ages 10 -12.

Toy Making
July 8 1:00pm - 3:00pm $30.00
Children ages 7 and up will use wood, fabric string and other materials to make a variety of early American toys to take home.

Marbling
July 14 1:00pm - 3:00pm $30.00
Kids 7 and up can create swirling patterns of color and capture them on handmade linen paper, colorful rice papers and silk fabric.

Mill to Muffins
July 15 1:00pm - 3:00pm $30.00
This workshop  is for ages 7 -12.  Children will take part in the process of making corn muffins from taking corn off the cob, grinding it at the mill and baking muffins over an open hearth.

Fun with Paper
July 21 1:00pm - 3:00pm $30.00
Children age 6 and up will participate in the hands-on process of forming their own sheets of paper.

Ice Cream Dreamin'
July 22 1:00pm - 3:00pm $30.00
Children ages 5 - 7 will have lots of fun discovering different ways to make ice cream.

Introduction to Blacksmithing
July 27,28 & 29 *
August 3,4 & 5 **
9:30am - 12:30pm $120.00
In this three day workshop, children learn basic skill while forging hot iron inot useful objects.
* To attend the July 27,28, and 29 classes children MUST have completed the 5th grade.
** To attend the August 3,4, and 5 classes children MUST have completed the 6th grade.

In the Colonial Kitchen Together
July 28 1:00pm - 3:00pm $40.00
Children ages 8 - 12 and their parent will experience cooking on an open hearth together as they make applesauce and bake a cake.

Revolutionary Cooking
August 4 1:00pm - 3:00pm $30.00
Children ages 7 - 12 will explore cooking during the American Revolution using ingredients and methods from the period.

Blacksmithing - Second Heat
August 10,11 & 12 9:30am - 12:30pm $120.00
In this three day workshop, children learn basic skill while forging hot iron inot useful objects. Saftey is emphasized
